Summary: A spacious and sturdy backpack designed for everyday life on the move.

The Monos Metro Backpack is one of the best travel backpacks for women that’s perfect for everyday travel!

This versatile companion can be used for daily commutes as well as weekend escapes.

It has a sleek and minimalist design, making it the perfect accessory for any outfit.

With a measurement of 11.4 x 15.9 x 6.6 inches and a weight of 2.47 lb, you’ll find it an easy fit under the seat of an airplane.

This roomy 18-liter pack has a clamshell opening and all the pockets you need, including a dedicated and padded 15” laptop compartment.

A cool feature of this travel pack is that it comes with a removable QuickSnap Kit System that can be snapped onto the front of the bag for additional storage.

Sturdy and water-resistant, its high-quality vegan leather and nylon mix fabric make sure that the bag can take a beating.

And with its comfortable shoulder straps, the Monos Metro backpack ensures a hassle-free journey.

Other features that might win you over include the trolley sleeve for seamless suitcase paring and its beautifully minimalist design.

Also, the Monos Metro is available in a variety of gorgeous colors.

It means that you are sure to find a color that suits your taste.

What’s not great

If you’re looking for a high-end backpack that will last you for years, the Monos Metro Backpack is a great option.

However, one (admittedly rather superficial) con of the Monos Metro backpack is that it looks terrible without the front pouch attached.

This may not be a deal-breaker for everyone, but it’s something to keep in mind.

Finally, this backpack is a bit on the pricier side.

So if you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option, you’ll need to look elsewhere.

Overall, the Monos Metro backpack seems like a great option for those looking for a stylish and functional bag.

Fjallraven Travel Pack

Summary: The Fjallraven Travel Pack is perfect for women who are looking for a stylish, functional, and comfortable backpack.

Fjallraven is a Swedish outdoor company that makes a bunch of great stuff including the infamous Kanken backpack.

Today, I want to talk about their Travel Pack, which is one of the best travel backpacks for women.

This Pack comes loaded with travel features that make it perfect for hitting the road.

It’s made from Fjallraven’s durable G-1000 fabric (65% polyester, and 35% cotton) that can withstand some wear and tear.

The fabric is also eco-friendly and water-resistant (not waterproof though), so you don’t have to worry about your stuff getting soaked if you get caught in a rain.

You can pack a lot into this 35L bag.

The main compartment features a clamshell-style opening with several compartments and pockets to help you keep everything organized.

This makes it easy to organize, and pack your belongings and keeps everything safe and secure while you’re on the go.

Also, there’s a separated and padded tech compartment with pockets that can fit a 15” laptop, tablet, documents, etc. so you can keep your devices safe from scratches.

I like that this compartment makes it easy to go through TSA checkpoints because it opens fully for easy access.

Even better, the harness system of the Fjallraven Travel Pack is thoughtfully designed to provide optimum comfort and support to a woman’s frame.

The shoulder straps are shorter (than the men’s version) and adjustable so you can customize the fit, while the back panel is breathable, which is great for ventilation.

Best Travel Backpacks for women: Fjallraven Travel Pack

What we also love

The bag is smart and stylish with a streamlined look that makes it perfect for both business and leisure travels.

Plus, it comes in a variety of stylish colors to choose from.

Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or a longer vacation, the Fjallraven Travel Pack is a great option for travels of all types.

What’s not great

There are a few potential downsides to the Fjallraven Travel Pack for women.

Firstly, it’s not suitable for carrying large or heavy loads – so if you’re planning on packing a lot of gear, you might want to look at another option.

Secondly, the fabric shows marks and scuffs fairly easily, so it won’t look great after a lot of use.

And finally, there’s no side water bottle pocket, which can be a pain if you’re trying to stay hydrated on the go.

Overall, though, it’s a well-made and stylish backpack that could be ideal for lighter loads and shorter trips.

Everlane ReNew Transit Backpack

Summary: The Everlane backpack is great for everyday commute, travel, and everything in between.

The Everlane ReNew Transit Backpack is a great travel backpack for women who are looking for a modern and minimalistic design.

Great for those who want a stylish bag without distracting frills, this is a pack you can use for everyday commutes as well as travels.

One of the best things about the ReNew Transit backpack is the environmentally-conscious material it’s made of – 100% recycled polyester and YKK zippers

The material is made from recycled plastic bottles, so it’s good for the environment too!

Also, it is water-resistant, so if you are ever faced with the elements at the most unpredictable times, your items are covered.

Despite its small 18-liter capacity, this baby can hold quite a lot.

It has 7 pockets to keep all your essentials separated—including a 13” exterior laptop sleeve, interior slip pockets, and two water bottle pockets for better organization.

You can also fit in a few clothes and a few other items for your day trip.

And thanks to its flap closure design, you can afford to stuff more items into the bag.

What we also love

Bursting with extra features, it has a sleek design, a well-positioned laptop compartment, a pass-through strap that attaches to rolling luggage, and a handy magnetic closure.

Plus, it is available in three neutral colors, and is super easy to clean!

What’s not so great

The Everlane ReNew Transit Backpack is a great backpack for everyday use and light traveling.

However, it’s not as heavy-duty as some of the other backpacks on this list of best travel backpacks for women, so it may not be ideal for intense use or heavy travel.

So, if you’re looking for a backpack that can withstand a lot of wear and tear, this one might not be the best option.

SWISSGEAR 1900 Scansmart TSA Laptop Backpack

Credit: swissgear.com

Summary: The Swissgear 1900 laptop backpack has been engineered to be very comfortable to carry and works well for EDC or travel.

The SwissGear 1900 is one of the best travel backpacks for women who are looking for a smart bag with enough room to fit the items needed for the daily commute or overnight stay.

Made from durable 1200D polyester, this bag is sturdy and also weather-resistant.

This pack has a lot to brag about, as far as organization is concerned.

It offers 31L of space with lots of pockets for everything you need to carry.

There’s a padded media pocket with a headphones hole, organizer pocket, side stretch mesh water bottle pockets, zippered accessory compartments, and a loop holder for your sunglasses.

Its SmartScan lay-flat system allows you to open the tablet and laptop compartment that opens into a lay-flat position for easy TSA screening at the airport.

This simply means you can leave your laptop inside your bag when going through airport security.

Best of all, it gives maximum protection to your expensive tech gadgets.

It not only fits a 17” laptop, and tablet, but it is also designed to prevent your laptop from striking a hard surface even when you bang or drop the bag in haste.

And thanks to its size, it is easy to travel with and it won’t take up much space under the seat in front of you or the overhead bin compartment when used as carry-on luggage.

What we also love

With over 12,000 five-star ratings on Amazon, this backpack is one of the best travel backpacks for women you can trust to serve you well.

For carrying comfort, it has contoured padded shoulder straps that can easily be adjusted to suit your frame and a heavily-padded airflow back panel that allows for excellent ventilation and ergonomic support.

I also like that the shoulder straps have a built-in reflective accent material for additional night safety.

And yes, it has a pocket you can slide over a luggage handle, and is also available in a variety of colors!

What’s not great

The SWISSGEAR 1900 Scansmart TSA Laptop Backpack is a great backpack for traveling. It has a lot of compartments and pockets for storing everything you need, and it’s comfortable to wear.

However, there are some drawbacks to this backpack.

One issue is that it doesn’t have a chest strap for extra support.

This can be a problem if you’re carrying a lot of weight in the backpack because when stuffed full, it can take a toll on your back.

Another is that some people have complained that the zippers are not very sturdy. They say that the zippers tend to come undone easily, which can be frustrating.

However, overall, this backpack is still a good option for those looking for a functional way to carry their belongings.

Best Travel Backpacks for women: Patagonia Black Hole Pack 32L
Credit: patagonia.com

Summary: The Black Hole pack is rugged, organized, and comfortable for city breaks and outdoor adventures.

If you’re looking for a resilient yet classy backpack that will cater to all your adventurous needs, you can’t go wrong with the Black Hole backpack from Patagonia.

It is the type of bag that you can use for everyday carry, outdoor, and travel use.

This 32L is not only spacious but is also travel-friendly with a TSA-approved laptop compartment that lays flat for easy airport security, making it one of the best travel backpacks for women.

It can fit up to a 15” laptop or hydration reservoir.

Also, there’s a roomy easy-access main compartment with pockets for organization and expandable water bottle pockets that can blissfully fit any bottle you throw in.

Of course, they haven’t forgotten comfort, either, as this bag features an adjustable and removable sternum strap to help distribute the weight when you have a heavier load.

Not to mention, it is thankfully crafted with padded shoulder straps and a fully adjustable harness to keep your shoulders happy on your expeditions.

Patagonia is known for its durable outdoor gear, and the Black Hole is no exception.

This bag is made of 100% post-consumer recycled polyester materials with a DWR coating to make sure your stuff is protected if you do get caught in the rain.

The reason there’s a sheen on the bag is that it’s combined with a TPU film laminate for added abrasion and weather resistance.

And with durable construction details like YKK zippersDuraflex hardware, and recycled polyester with a PU coating lining, you know this pack is going to hold up to any sort of demand you can throw at it.

Even better, the fabric used is bluesign approved, meaning it is sustainably and ethically made.

What we also love

One of the best travel backpacks for women you’ll love and use for years to come, the Black Hole even comes with lifetime warranties and a repair program.

Also, it is available in four colors as of the time of this review.

What’s not great

The Patagonia Black Hole backpack does not necessarily have the most robust harness system possible, but it works.

For one, this bag does not have a hip belt and there isn’t much air channel to help prevent sweating or moisture build-up, like the Nomatic Travel Pack.

Also, this pack has a sporty look that may not appeal to some fashion-forward female travelers. But then, beauty, they say is in the eyes of the beholder, so who knows, you just might be a fan.

By the way, if you have a back problem, you can also check out my review of the 20 best backpacks for back pain for very comfortable backpacks, or a detailed comparison of the Black Hole backpack collection.

The backpacks in this category are medium-sized and are above 40L.

These are the types of travel backpacks for women that can count as carry-on luggage and can more fit items for 4 days’ worth of travel or more.

Best Travel Backpacks for women: Osprey Fairview 40
Credit: osprey.com

Summary: A sturdy and super comfortable pack you can carry for hiking, and also travel with.

Osprey is known for its practical, carry-on-friendly, and feature-packed travel packs – and the Osprey Fairview 40 is no exception.

It is my top pick as one of the best-rated travel backpacks for women because this bag has tons of features that make it perfect for air travel.

For one, it is lightweight and meets most airline carry-on bag size restrictions, meaning it will fit in the overhead compartment or under the seat of most airplanes.

Another huge selling point is that it features a suitcase-style clamshell opening design, meaning it is not top loading and instead, can be fully unzipped from the front to open like a suitcase.

Also, the Fairview 40 is a go-to for so many people because of the clever organization it offers.

The main compartment is spacious and includes a suspended mesh panel to keep items organized as well as compression straps to keep things in place.

There is also a front zip pocket for quick access to essentials, two water bottle pockets, and an integrated 15” laptop sleeve.

And coming in at 40L carrying capacity, you can pack as light as possible without the temptation to haul excess weight, making it a great size for weekend getaways or short trips.

Plus, you’ll appreciate how comfortable it is.

The Osprey Fairview is specially designed for women and is sized for smaller torsos, which makes it a great contender on this list of best travel backpacks for women.

And it comes with a LightWire frame suspension and comfortable waist strap that takes the weight off your shoulders and transfers it to your pelvis so your back doesn’t feel the pressure.

Also, there are wide shoulder straps, a hip belt, and a ventilated mesh back panel that helps keep your shirt dry in hot or humid conditions.

Thick padded handles on the top and side let you carry it as hand luggage in a pinch.

Best of all?

This high-quality pack comes with glowing user reviews, and weighs just 3.17 lbs, which means it is also a lightweight backpack!

And it’s built with water-resistant nylon ripstop fabric which means it is incredibly durable and can withstand heavy use.

Whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure, the Osprey Fairview 40 is a great option for bringing all your essentials along with you.

What we also love

If you’re looking for a bag that can do double duty as a hiking backpack, look no further than the Fairview 40L.

It’s big enough to hold all your essentials for a day hike, but still lightweight and comfortable enough to wear for extended periods.

Plus, tons of customers have gushed about how it can comfortably carry all your possessions for many years.

What’s more?

The FarPoint comes in two different color options and other sizes, so you can always go for what suits you best.

Even better, the Fairview comes with the guarantee that Osprey will fix anything that is damaged or broken, no questions asked.

What’s not great

The Fairview 40 is a great travel backpack for women, but there are a few cons worth mentioning.

The main downside of the Fairview 40 is that the placement of the laptop compartment on the front of the pack isn’t ideal for load balancing.

This is because if you’re carrying a lot of gear in the bag, your laptop can feel a bit off-balance.

Additionally, the front compartment is quite limited in terms of space and can’t accommodate larger items when the main compartment is loaded out.

Other than that, this backpack is comfortable, spacious, and a high-quality piece of luggage that will last you for years.

Credit: peakdesign.com

Summary: The Peak Design Travel Bag is simple and minimalistic with outstanding quality.

There’s no shortage of amazing travel backpacks for women on the market these days, but the Peak Design Travel Bag really stands out from the pack.

Although simple-looking and minimalistic, it is loaded with impressive travel-ready features.

It’s constructed from recycled 400D nylon canvas shell materials, features great zippers, and is 100% water-resistant. This bag will stand up to the rigors of travel and repeated use.

It has entry points at the top, side, front, and rear, making it easy to access your belongings no matter which way you’re carrying the bag.

And with its great storage capacity, you’ll be able to fit everything you need for your trip inside.

It has a divisible main compartment, two large water bottle pockets, several interior pockets, and of course, padded laptop and tablet sleeves!

And it is also expandable!

Depending on how much you need to pack, you can alternate between 35 and 45 liters by simply zipping or unzipping the frontmost zipper.

Thanks to its expandable design, this is one of the best travel backpacks for women that you can use for daily carry, and also expand to add the things you need for weekend jaunts or a 2-week journey.

Even better, at 35L when not expanded, and with a dimension of 22 x 13 x 9.5 inches, it is carry-on sized approved!

So, you won’t have to worry about being asked to check your luggage.

The Peak Design Travel Bag 45L is a great travel bag for those who want a lot of space without being too bulky.

It’s so comfortable to wear, even when it’s fully packed, thanks to the padded shoulder straps and waist straps.

The bag has padded shoulder straps and waist straps, as well as easy-to-grab handles, making it comfortable and easy to carry.

The stowable hip belt is also a nice feature, as it can help distribute the weight evenly when you’re on the go.

The easy-to-grab handles make it a breeze to carry, even when you’re running to your gate.

Overall, the Peak Design Travel Bag 45L is a great option for those looking for a reliable and spacious travel bag.

What we also love

If you’re a photographer who often carries around multiple camera cubes and other accessories, the Peak Design Travel Bag 45L is a safe and reliable way to transport it all.

This bag is specifically designed to keep your photo equipment safe, with plenty of room for camera cubes and other accessories.

And the build quality is excellent, so you know your gear will be well-protected even if there’s a bumpy ride.

Plus, the bag itself is extremely well-built and stylish, so you’ll look great while carrying it around.

Whether you’re taking a weekend trip or a longer vacation, this bag will come in handy!

What’s not great

The Peak Design Travel Bag 45L is a high-quality, expandable travel bag for women that’s perfect for weekend getaways and long trips alike, but there are a few downsides.

Firstly, it’s quite pricey compared to other bags of similar options on the market.

Additionally, it’s not carry-on compliant when expanded.

So, if you don’t want to check your bag, I advise you to use it at the compressed 35-liter size, rather than expand the bag.

And finally, there are no woman-specific sizing features as this is a unisex pack, so if you’re petite or have a smaller frame, the bag might not fit comfortably.

Best Travel Backpacks for women: REI Co-op Ruckpack 40 Recycled Pack- Women’s

Summary: The Ruckpack 40 features a hybrid design that allows it to be used as both a travel pack and an outdoor rucksack.

The REI Co-op Ruckpack 40 is an all-purpose, versatile hybrid travel/adventure pack that you can take anywhere.

It’s perfect if you want to blend in with the city crowd but also be ready for an outdoor adventure at a moment’s notice.

The Ruckpack 40 has a clean and simple aesthetic, and it’s made with durable water-resistant material to keep your belongings safe in bad weather.

And it comes with a stowable rain cover for added protection.

The pack has plenty of handy features to get excited about.

It features wide-open clamshell access that allows for easy access to gear, side pockets for water bottles, as well as pockets and attachment points to secure other items.

And it has a spacious 40L carrying capacity, a lightweight spring steel frame, and load lifters so you can comfortably haul all your essentials.

To top it all off, the back sleeve is compatible with both laptops and water bladders!

Best of all?

The REI Co-op Ruckpack 40 backpack is designed specifically for women and is made to be more comfortable.

The shoulder straps curve around the chest and the hip belt is more adjustable to fit different body types.

Additionally, the pack features a breathable, padded back panel and hip belt for extra comfort when carrying heavy loads.

One of the coolest features of this backpack is that the shoulder straps and hip belt can be zipped away when you don’t need them, which prevents them from getting in the way.

I like this feature in a backpack because it allows you to have a more streamlined and cleaner look, and you won’t have to deal with dangling straps here and there, which can be frustrating.

Credit: rei.com

What we also love

Even better, this is one of the best travel backpacks for women that is eco-friendly and made with recycled materials, so you can feel good about your purchase.

REI uses BlueSign certified nylon fabric for the exterior, which means that few toxic chemicals are used, and the factories are run using ethical practices.

REI has a 100% guarantee and a good return policy so you can try out the bag for a while to see if it’s right for you. If it’s not, you can always return it for a full refund.

What’s not great

There are a few potential drawbacks to the REI Co-op Ruckpack 40 Recycled Pack for women.

The main downside is that the laptop compartment doesn’t seem to be very well padded, so it may not offer enough protection for your device.

So, if you tend to travel with your laptop, my advice is that you get an additional laptop case so that you can be sure your precious device would be safely transported.

Also, this pack is not carry-on-compliant because it measures 25 x 14.5 x 9 inches, while most carry-on restrictions cap at 22 inches.

So, this is something you may want to keep in mind if you are interested in a bag you can travel with as a carry-on.

Finally, some customers thought there should be more color options, instead of the two available.

Overall, most people find that the 40L capacity is just perfect for carrying everything they need without being too bulky.

Pacsafe Venturesafe EXP45 ECONYL Travel Pack

Best Travel Backpacks for women: Pacsafe Venturesafe EXP45 ECONYL Travel Pack

Pacsafe is the leading brand in anti-theft travel gear, and their Venturesafe EXP45 backpack is one of the best on the market.

This bag is made from ECONYL recycled yarn, which makes it environmentally friendly as well as theft-proof. Aside from being sustainable, the material is also durable and water-resistant.

The Venturesafe EXP45 features eXomesh Slashguard technology that makes it cut-proof, slash-proof straps, lockable and puncture-resistant zippers, and RFID-blocking pockets to help keep your belongings safe while you travel.

The stitching and construction are designed to prevent anyone from slashing or cutting into your bag to steal your belongings, and the zippers are also reinforced with metal mesh to prevent tampering.

Also, a built-in locking metal cable allows you to lash this bag securely to a static point.

It’s also really practical and comfortable to wear, which is a plus.

It comes with padded shoulder straps as well as waist straps that can also be tucked away during transit.

This backpack also comes with several other features that make it perfect for travel, such as a padded 16” laptop sleeve, pockets for organization, and a clamshell opening for easy access to your belonging.

And at 21.7 x 13.8 x 8.7 inches (HWD), the EXP45 is roughly within most airline carry-on size requirements.

What we also love

I like that this pack can be worn on your back or carried briefcase-style.

Plus, it comes in a variety of fun colors, so you can choose the one that best suits your style.

I think it’s a great option for anyone looking for a durable and comfortable travel pack.

What’s not great

The Pacsafe Venturesafe anti-theft EXP45 Travel Pack is a great travel backpack for women who want a little extra security.

However, there are a few cons to consider.

Some customers have found issues with the EXP45 in terms of water resistance.

While the bag is made of water-resistant material, some users wished it was more waterproof or that it came with a rain cover.

Others have said that the bag is a bit on the heavy side.

Overall, the VentureSafe EXP45 is an excellent option for those looking for a safe and secure way to travel.

Tortuga Outbreaker Backpack

Best Travel Backpacks for women: Tortuga Outbreaker Backpack

Summary:  The Tortuga Outbreaker is a travel-friendly backpack for modern and digital nomads

The Tortuga Outbreaker backpack is the perfect travel companion for women looking for a bag that combines the organization and space of a suitcase with the comfort of a backpack.

Measuring 22 x 14 x 9 inches, with a weight of 5.1lbs, the Outbreaker is a US max. carry-on standard size that fits in the overhead bin.

And coming in at 45 liters carrying capacity, it’s the perfect size for carrying everything you need without being cumbersome, making it one of the best travel backpacks for women.

I’ve heard such great things about this carry-on and the most common praise for it is that it’s organization friendly.

The Outbreaker features a front-loading, clamshell design that opens up wide like a suitcase with lots of mesh dividers, which means you can easily access your belongings without having to navigate through a maze of straps and buckles.

It also has thoughtful organizational features like a dedicated 17” padded laptop and sleeve compartment, two water bottle pockets as well as plenty of organizational pockets to keep everything neatly sorted.

One of the best things about this unisex backpack is that can comfortably carry a lot of weight.

It has a height-adjustable suspension system and weight-bearing hip belt that make it perfect for carrying heavy loads.

Additionally, the load lifters and sternum strap help distribute the weight evenly, making it more comfortable to carry for extended periods.

Plus, the contoured back panel, as well as padded straps, make it comfortable to wear even when loaded down with gear.

So if you’re looking for the best travel backpack for women that can handle anything from weekend getaways to long-term travels, be sure to check out the Tortuga Outbreaker.

What we also love

The Outbreaker is quickly becoming a favourite carry-on travel backpack for many.

The Outbreaker is made with durable, waterproof sailcloth that is perfect for keeping your belongings dry and safe on even the wettest of adventures.

The bag also features water-resistant YKK lockable zippers and Duraflex buckles and hardware that are built to withstand anything you throw at them.

The lockable zippers also give you more confidence when traveling as it’d be much harder for others to get into your backpack without permission.

But if you prefer something smaller, or one that easily meets the international maximum carry-on size requirement, the Outbreaker Backpack in 35L comes to the rescue.

You can learn more from my review of the Tortuga setout laptop backpack as well as their production process at https://blog.tortugabackpacks.com.

What’s not great

If you’re looking for a lightweight backpack, the Outbreaker may not be ideal since it weighs in at around 5.1 pounds empty.

When packed with gear, it can become quite a bit bulkier and heavier. This may not be an issue if you don’t mind carrying a bit of extra weight, but it’s something to keep in mind.

Another potential downside is the cost.

The Outbreaker backpack is relatively expensive compared to other options on the market.

Overall, the Tortuga Outbreaker backpack is a great choice for those looking for a high-quality bag that’ll last for years.

I like that this bag is available in different sizes (extra small, small, and medium), so you can go for the one that best fits your body structure.

And if you want something smaller, you can go for the Aura AG 50, which is almost the same, feature-wise as the Aura 65, but just smaller.

The Aura 65 comes in three color choices and is easy to clean!

What’s not great

The Osprey Aura 65 backpack is a great piece of gear, but there are a few things to keep in mind before purchasing it.

First, it’s important to note that the backpack is quite large and might be too big as a carry-on bag.

Second, the backpack is quite heavy, so it might not be ideal for long-distance treks.

However, the backpack is built for maximum space and comfort, making it perfect for weekend camping trips or extended backpacking journeys.

The Terra 55 has a J-zip opening design which allows you to easily access your travel essentials, especially those packed at the bottom or in the middle of the main compartment.

It also features a variety of pockets and compartments for storage, including a sleeping bag compartment, front stash pocket, side pockets, zippered pockets on the hip belt, and a variety of lash points for adding gear.

What we also love

At 55L, it can store a lot of items without the added weight, making it one of the best travel backpacks for women perfect for extended trips.

There’s also a hydration sleeve and a sleeping bag compartment, making it a great bag for outdoors and adventure travel.

What’s not great

The North Face Women’s Terra 55 Pack is a great backpack for long trips and outdoor excursions, but it may not be the best option for shorter trips or everyday use.

It can be too heavy for shorter trips or for carrying as carry-on luggage on an airplane.

Additionally, the pack can be quite bulky when loaded out with all of your gear.

Other than that, it’s a great piece of kit and should serve you well on your adventures!

Summary: The REI Flash 55 is lightweight and customizable so you can make it into whatever works best with your adventure style.

The Flash 55 backpack is a top-rated travel pack that’s ideal for use both in the cities and in the mountains.

Best of all, it is fitted specifically for a woman’s frame and is spacious enough for long trips and weekend backpacking missions.

The REI compression technology and the lightweight design of this bag make it comfortable to carry, even for long distances.

It weighs just 2lbs and comes with a removable waist strap and hip belt, so you can distribute weight across your body when needed, making it one of the best travel backpacks for women.

The mesh back panel allows for airflow keeping you cooler when walking.

I especially like that you can move or remove some external pockets and straps to increase storage or shed weight which allows you total freedom in designing an individualized layout that will fit your needs whether you’re on an adventure or just traveling around town.

For instance, you can remove the hip belt pockets, shoulder strap pockets, and compression straps to reduce weight if needed.

What’s more?

The bag is made from a mix of ripstop nylon and oxford nylon that is not only bluesign approved but also durable enough to withstand a lot of wear and tear.

What we also love

The Flash comes with a lot of thoughtful features.

There is a convenient roll-top closure, hydration reservoir compartment, and several pockets for organization, including water bottle pockets, and attachment loops where you can attach small accessories like ice axes, poles, etc.

What’s not great

There are a few drawbacks to the REI Co-op Flash 55 pack – women’s model that customers have noted.

First, some users have found that the pack lacks durability and does not stand up well to heavier loads or intense use over time.

Additionally, while the Flash 55 is designed specifically for women, it may not be ideal for everyone’s body type or hiking style.

However, if you’re looking for a light pack or something to use for hikes and lighter loads, the REI Co-op Flash 55 pack – women’s model could be a good option for you.

Kelty Women’s Redwing 50

Summary: The Kelty Redwing 50 is lightweight and great for any trail or travel getaways.

If you’re looking to embark on a weekend hiking trip, or you prefer to take backpacks on holiday with you instead of suitcases; the Kelty Redwing 50 is an excellent contestant when it comes to choosing the best travel backpacks for women.

First off, it is designed to be comfortable for women.

This 50L bag comes with features including an easy FIT-Pro torso adjustment system, women-specific torso length, shoulder straps, waist belt, and stabilizer straps for a great carry experience.

I particularly like how its dynamic airflow back panel that ensures your back is not only supported but is also well-ventilated to reduce sweat buildup.

Plus, the shoulder straps are adjustable so you can find the perfect fit.

The Kelty Redwing 50 backpack is a roomy 50-liter backpack with a top-loading main compartment and seven pockets.

Additionally, it has attachment points for carrying extra gear, making it a great choice for extended hikes or backpacking trips.

What we also love

The Kelty 50 is not very expensive, which makes it a good consideration for those on a budget.

What’s more?

This backpack is made from 420D polyester, which makes it sturdy and durable. It also has an internal frame that helps keep the pack’s shape, which is great for carrying heavier items.

What’s not great

It can be quite large for ladies or teenagers with a small frame.

The Kelty Redwing 50 backpack is a solid choice for a weekend getaway or an overnight hike, but there are a few downsides.

Firstly, a reviewer noted that the waist belt is much smaller than on the prior model, so it’s not as comfortable to wear over long distances.

Secondly, the fabric isn’t quite as robust as on older models, so you’ll need to be more careful with it when packing and handling it.

Overall, though, it’s a good backpack that will serve you well for shorter trips.

Summary: The AirContact Lite offers an excellent balance of comfort and durability for those who want to go on longer hikes.

If you’re looking for a top-quality backpack that won’t let you down on the trail, consider the Deuter Aircontact Lite 60 + 10 SL Pack.

This backpack is designed to balance comfort, weight, and ventilation, making it perfect for your next hike or camping trip.

This SL model means the carrying system is specially adapted to the female anatomy, effectively making it one of the best travel backpacks for women.

This is because the Lite has an adjustable lumbar support system that can be customized to fit your body and anatomically shaped shoulder straps that distribute weight evenly.

It also has features like an adjustable sternum strap, load adjustment straps, a height-adjustable lid, and a padded hip belt, so it is comfortable to wear all day long.

As well as an innovative Aircomfort back panel that vents body heat and moisture, so you’ll stay cool and comfortable even on hot days.

Also, the Aircontact Lite 60 + 10 SL has plenty of storage space for all your gear.

It features a section that can add up to 10 liters of capacity if needed, or be removed to be converted into a daypack for when you need to go light.

What we also love

The AirContact Lite offers you options.

It is available in three colors and many sizes, so you can go for what best suits your need.

Even better, this particular backpack is made with durable yet lightweight materials, so it won’t weigh you down on your hike.

What’s not great

The major downside to this backpacking pack is that it might be a great fit for small women.

This is because the waistband and high pack frame of the Deuter Aircontact Lite 60 + 10 SL Pack can feel bulky and a little big if you’re petite.

You won’t have to worry about getting just one size fits all because there are so many options available ranging from 40+10 to 70+15.

So you can choose the size that fits your frame.

Overall, I will say that this backpack is super well-made and sturdy, with awesome great support and tons of storage space.

Buyer’s Guide: How to Choose the Best Travel Backpack for Women

When looking for the best travel backpacks for women, here are some important factors you need to consider before making a final decision.

Women’s Vs. Unisex: Go for a female-specific fit

Credit: pacsafe.com

What makes travel backpacks for women different from other backpacks?

There are a couple of key reasons why female-specific fit is important on the best travel backpacks for women.

First, even though we are all equal, women are typically shorter than men. As a result, a lot of typical “one size fits all” backpacks that fit men sometimes end up being too big and bulky for ladies.

Second, women have different proportions than men, and often have narrower shoulders than men.

Also, many women have curvier figures than men, so a pack that is designed to hug the contours of a man’s body may not be as flattering or comfortable on a woman’s body.

But the travel backpacks specially designed for women feature a few modifications.

For one, they usually have a slightly different shape to contour better to female anatomy. This can help prevent discomfort and pain in the lower back and shoulders.

And the pack is designed to sit higher up on the back and not hang down as low, to accommodate short women.

Also, the best travel backpacks for women come with narrower shoulder straps and hip belts designed to fit a woman’s body better.

The strap is not only well padded but is narrower, while the hip belt will help lighten the load and properly distribute the bulk of the weight to avoid straining your shoulders and back.

This is why most of the travel backpacks included in this list are specially designed and well suited for women.

By choosing a backpack with a female-specific fit, you can be sure that it will fit your body properly and be more comfortable to wear.

Shoulder Straps & Hip Belts

Shoulder straps and hip belts are important features in the best travel backpacks for women because they help to distribute the weight of the backpack evenly across your body.

Padded shoulder straps are comfortable, and when they’re contoured to fit a woman’s shape, they can make all the difference in how comfortable the backpack is to wear.

Also, one size doesn’t always fit all.

When the straps are adjustable, it allows you to customize the fit of the backpack to your specific body shape, ensuring that it’s both comfortable and effective.

On the other hand, a padded hip belt helps to stabilize the pack, and also distribute the weight more evenly. This places the weight closer to your centre of gravity and helps with your posture, rather than focusing all the weight on your shoulders.

All of these factors come into play when you’re trying to decide on the best travel backpack for women.

And to make it easier for you, most, if not all the travel backpacks for women on this list are designed to be comfortable while you travel about.

Size & Capacity

Size and carrying capacity are always important factors to consider when choosing any type of backpack, but they become especially important when you’re looking for a travel backpack for women.

Why is size important?

Well, you want a backpack that can comfortably hold all of your essential travel gear without being too bulky or cumbersome, be it on a day trip, weekend getaway, or even a backpacking trip.

You also want to make sure that the pack fits your body well – not too big or too small.

Backpacks come in a range of sizes, from small (under 40L) to medium(40L+) and up to large backpacks (60 liters and above) backpacks.

Remember that different packs have different carrying capacities, so make sure you choose one that will fit everything you need to bring with you!

But if I were to recommend a backpack size for travel that counts as a carry-on, I’d recommend bags between 30-50L because they tend to be big enough to hold all of your gear but still small enough to be comfortable and manageable.

And of course, bags within this size often fit into carry-on dimension requirements, so you won’t have to deal with checking your bag.

But for extended trips, outdoor explorations, or larger backpacks with a detachable travel daypack attached for more storage, I’d suggest you do not go over 60-70 liters because of your back and carrying comfort.

And lastly, small backpacks for women for everyday use or short trips can be below 40 liters.

With a backpack that’s the right size, you’ll be able to easily carry it around with you wherever you go.

Pockets & Compartments

Pocket and compartments are important in travel backpacks for women for three reasons: easy access, organization, and even weight distribution.

By having pockets and compartments, you can easily grab what you need without having to dig through your entire bag.

This is especially useful when you’re on the go and don’t have time to rummage around.

Additionally, compartments help keep things organized so you know exactly where everything is, rather than dump everything into one big open area.

This comes in handy when you need to find something specific quickly.

Last but not least, compartments allow for even weight distribution which is important because it prevents back and shoulder pains.

Too much weight in one area can cause discomfort and pain.

By having pockets and compartments, you can spread the weight out more evenly which makes for a more comfortable experience while traveling.

So, whether you’re looking for the best travel backpacks for women for a weekend getaway or a longer trip, make sure to look for one with plenty of pockets and compartments.

It’ll make your packing experience much smoother (and your trip more enjoyable!).

Style & Color

Style is important in the best travel backpack for women because it can help to make a woman feel more confident while she is on the go.

You may want a travel backpack that reflects your style, whether it is feminine and floral or sleek and modern.

Another important factor to consider is color.

Light colors are cute but show dirt and marks more easily than darker colors.

Darker colors like black, navy or deep blue are less likely to show dirt and are therefore better suited for travel, especially if you plan to fit your bag under the seat in front of you or the overhead bin compartment.

So if you’re looking for a backpack that will stay looking clean and new for longer, go with a darker color.

Extra Features

When looking for the best travel backpacks for women, it’s important to think about the features that would be most valuable and convenient for you.

If you want a solid backpack that you can take anywhere from daily commutes to occasional travel, features such as a padded laptop sleeve, easy access pockets, a key leash, water bottle pockets, USB charging port, compression strap, and luggage straps can make your life easier.

For example, if you tend to go about with your laptop, tablet, phone, mouse, and other accessories, you would prefer a travel backpack with a separated and well-padded tech compartment, instead of just a pocket inside the main compartment of the bag.

For bags you want to travel with, consider looking for important features like water-resistant zippers, TSA-friendly lockable zippers, laptop compartments, clamshell opening style, hidden pockets, expandable zippers, and more.

For example, you may want to go for only the best-rated 18 x 14 x 8 bags that count as personal items and will easily fit under the seat of most airlines.

In addition to the major features, backpacking backpacks usually come with a whole host of extra features ranging from an internal frame, hydration bladder, laptop storage, sleeping bag pocket, detachable daypacks, and more.

And if you are a conscious shopper, some bags are sustainably made without damage to our planet.

By considering all of your needs and wants in the best travel bag for women, you can quickly narrow down your search and find the perfect option for your next trip.

What size backpack can you take on a plane?

Best Travel Backpacks for women: Young woman places luggage in airline overhead bin

Your backpack needs to be small enough to fit the size requirements of personal items. This is usually around 16 x 12 x 6 inches.

However, some airlines like Spirit Airlines, Frontier Airlines, American Airlines, etc., rules have it that your items should not exceed 18 x 14 x 8 inches.

If your backpack is larger than these dimensions, it may not comfortably fit beneath the seat in front of you.

As a result, it will be considered a carry-on bag and must be stowed within the overhead bins above your seat, or have it checked.

Which backpack is best for traveling?

There are a few things to consider when choosing the best travel backpacks for women.

First, it’s important to find a backpack that is durable and can withstand wear and tear.

Second, it’s important to choose a backpack that is comfortable to wear, especially if you’ll be carrying it around for long distances.

And finally, it’s important to choose a stylish backpack that will make you stand out from the crowd.

Some of the best-rated travel backpacks for women include the Osprey Fairview 40 Backpack, Fjallraven Travel Pack, the Patagonia Black Hole Backpack, etc.

These backpacks are made with strong materials and feature comfortable straps and padding. They also come in a variety of colors and styles, so you can find one that suits your personality.

How many liters in a backpack do I need for travel?

How many liters do you need for travel? It honestly depends on the length and style of your trip!

For weekend getaways or short trips, rei.com recommends that a 30-50L pack should suffice.

But If you’re planning to be gone for one or two weeks at a time, then you’ll likely need something in the 50-75L range.

And finally, if you’re embarking on some sort of big expedition where you’ll be gone for an extended time, then you’ll need a backpack that’s 75L or larger.

No matter what size bag you choose, make sure it’s comfortable to carry and includes all the features you need.

Is it better to travel with a backpack or suitcase?

Best Travel Backpacks for Women: a suitcase and backpack at the airport

There’s no right or wrong answer to this question – it depends on your destination, style of travel style, and how you like to pack

If you’re the type of traveler who likes to move around freely, have easy access to your belongings, and/or pack light, then a backpack might be the better option for you.

Backpacks are also great if you’re planning on doing any hiking or other activities that require having your hands free.

On the other hand, if you prefer taking lots of things with you, traveling with heavy items or having everything easily accessible, then a suitcase might work better for you.

Suitcases also tend to be more protective of your belongings, so they can be a good choice if you’re traveling with fragile items or electronics.

Of course, there are advantages and disadvantages to both options.

Backpacks are typically more comfortable to carry for long periods, and they’re often more versatile since you can use them for hiking or other activities.

But suitcases can be easier to pack since they have more space, and many come with wheels so you don’t have to carry them all the time.

Also, if you’re only planning to be gone for a few days or weeks, then a backpack may be all you need.

However, if you’re taking an extended trip or have lots of items to bring with you, then a suitcase may be more appropriate.

Ultimately, it’s up to personal preference and what works better for your particular style of travel.

  1. I just love how detailed your articles are. I love back I just never seem to have time to use them. I am more of a handbag person. I like stylish and a bit of colour to my back and you seem to have those included in your options. Size also matters I guess it depends on the type of trip you are taking as well. Great backpack options here.

  2. Hey Femi,

Another very detailed and helpful article.

I love “The Fjallraven Travel Pack” because of the laptop space and also I love the colour of it. It looks like it will be very comfortable to carry which would be very important when travelling around London.

I will let you know if I purchase it through your site.

Keep up the great work as always,

  3. Hi Femi,

What a great and informative page.

    I do like a backpack:

There’s something special about a backpack
It’s not just for men, you know
There’s a special kind of joy
When a woman straps one on
She knows she can go anywhere
    And carry everything she needs
    With ease and grace
A backpack is perfect for Wanderlust
And that’s why I love mine so much.

Anyway, there are 2 here that have really caught my eye:

The SWISSGEAR 1900 Scansmart TSA Laptop Backpack

and the Patagonia Black Hole Pack 32L.

They are so different it might be worth getting both.

Thanks again for the work you have put in here.

You are provided the best bags out there and most look very durable.
I like that you also have included a guide on how to choose the best travel bag for females.
I think I may have to get her the Fjallraven Travel Pack as it looks like something she would like.
    Thank you again.

  5. Hi Femi,

Thank you so much for sharing all of these backpacks! I’m looking for the birthday of a friend of mine, and I have to mention that you didn’t make choosing a lot easier with all of these options :D!

Which one would you recommend that combines light travel (city trips) and work (PR – so needs to fit a laptop)? The Fjallraven looks really great, but do you think it would fit in an extra outfit?

    Reply
    • Thank you for your question, Virendra!

I would recommend both the Monos Metro Backpack and the Fjallraven Travel Pack as they are perfect for both light travel and work even as they are sleek and minimalist in design, making them the perfect accessory for any outfit. Also, they both have a padded laptop sleeve that can hold up to a 15” laptop and spacious enough to fit more than an extra cloth.
But if I were to choose, I’d go for the The Monos Metro backpack (18L) because it specially looks great for the office environment, and is not as big as the Fjallraven Pack (35L). But if you imagine that your friend needs all the space they could get, the latter is a better choice.

I hope this information was helpful and I wish you the best of luck in finding the perfect backpack for your friend’s birthday!
      Cheers,
      Femi.
