              • Can be uncomfortable with heavy loads: when loaded up, there is no sternum strap nor a removable waist belt to help with weight management.
              • No back panel ventilation: While the back panel is reasonably padded, it doesn’t have any air mesh for ventilation.
              • Lacks some modern-day features: The Loop backpack does not come with some smart features like a laptop sleeve, a USB port, etc.

The High Sierra Loop backpack is easily one of the most popular High Sierra backpacks and is one of Amazon’s best-sellers.

And that’s because it is a great option for school and work – it’s large enough to fit all your books, notebooks, and tech inside, and it looks pretty cool too.

That being said, the High Sierra Loop backpack looks too much like a school pack to be aesthetically pleasing for different occasions.

There’s really nothing fancy going on—it’s just an average backpack that is affordable and can carry your day-to-day gear.

Although this pack could be taken hiking or traveling, it is ideal for everyday use.

High Sierra Loop Backpack Review: High Sierra backpacks collections

With a dimension of 19.0 x 13.5 x 8.5 inches, and a weight of 2.04 lbs, it makes for a comfortable carry to fit your daily essentials.

For branding, there is an evident logo on the bottom of the pack and a smaller one on one shoulder strap.

And it is also available in lots of colors and prints so that everyone can pick up a design they actually like.

Although not the most feature-packed backpack out there, it covers all the bases for anyone who likes things well organized and easy to get to.

The durability of this backpack is pretty much what you’d expect for a backpack of this price range.

The High Sierra Loop backpack is made from 600D Polyester ripstop fabric. This is a material known to be lightweight, flexible, and durable.

                                        And it is water-resistant.

The Loop pack would do a fair job of keeping your electronics or books dry when the rain comes out. However, the zippers and fabrics won’t hold up if you are caught out in a nasty rainstorm.

However, there are features I expected the manufacturers to include in the Loop backpack.

To start, it’s a 33L bag that’s designed to hold a lot of items, whether it’s for work, school, or even hiking. However, it has no sternum strap nor a waist belt to help with weight management, especially when loaded up.

While I understand that these features are not really needed when you’re carrying just your books and few items, it can get problematic when the pack is loaded up or worn for a long period of time.

In addition, it is lacking some modern-day features like a USB port for charging on the go and a laptop sleeve. It’s for this reason I’d recommend it for students or daily commuters who do not really move about with their digital devices.

Overall, the High Sierra Loop backpack works well for day-to-day use and occasional hiking purposes. However, if you are a heavy hitter and always on the road, then you may want to look elsewhere.

                                        Fit & Comfort

The Loop backpack is fairly comfortable.

It features a padded back panel, contoured shoulder straps, and suspension system, that makes carrying a heavy load a cinch.

The ergonomic padded shoulder straps will help the wearer stay comfortable even while carrying their books, binders, and notebooks to and from class.

It also includes a padded back panel that provides a barrier from its contents and your back so sharp objects do not poke you while you’re wearing it.

Also, it has external compression straps which will come in handy when the backpack is not entirely full.
They allow you to cinch in the bag and make it more compact, in order to prevent its contents from shifting around.

However, it is lacking a few important features.

The back panel while padded, is not ventilated. This lack of ventilation is a serious downside; a sweaty back is unavoidable, especially in the summer months.

Also, it does not have a hip strap to help take the load off your shoulders if you are carrying a lot and for a long time.

In addition, it has no sternum strap either to help with weight management.

These are the top three reasons why I’m not particularly impressed with the comfort of this backpack and have rated it a 4.4 out of 5 in this High Sierra Loop backpack review.

However, if you’re not going to be carrying anything too heavy inside it, you’ll do just fine.

The High Sierra Loop 33liters backpack offers just enough room for your tech, work items, and a few personal items.

It comes with multi-compartment sleeves, organizers for accessories, and pockets. Although I don’t consider this backpack ideal for travel, it’s perfectly sized as a daily carry backpack for just the essentials.

As usual, I will tell you about them in a little bit more detail below.

                                        Organizer panel

Starting at the front, you’ll see an organizer panel.

Inside this organizer compartment, you’ll find a variety of pockets and slots for bits and pieces such as pens, business cards, tech accessories, and more. Here is where you’ll also find a key fob so you won’t have to dig into the bottom of the pack to locate it.

                                        Top pocket

Above the organizer panel, there is a pocket ideal for your sunglasses, phone, or other similarly sized objects.

                                        Front attachment clip

There is a big hook clip underneath the top pocket where you can easily attach gear like a mask or water bottle.

                                        Compression straps

If you need extra storage, you can make use of the adjustable bottom webbing straps to carry items like your jackets or sleeping bags.

                                        Middle compartment

In front of the main compartment is another big and super practical pocket. It works well for less bulky items.

Plus, there’s even a dedicated sleeve for your tablet.

                                        Main compartment

It is pretty spacious and it will definitely fit all your school/work necessities.

Although it is stated on the High Sierra website that this bag can fit most 15.6” laptops, some users have found this not to be true. It is designed to hold a tablet, but not a laptop.

Hey, don’t be disappointed just yet; I have some options for you if you’re specifically looking for the best backpacks for your laptops.

                                        Side water bottle pockets

Finally, there are mesh pockets for a water bottle or umbrella on each side of the Loop backpack.

All in all, the High Sierra Loop pack is a 33L backpack that is spacious and so ideal for busy students, commuters, or anyone who needs a backpack that can fit a bit more items.

                                        Price

Retailing for just $27.99 on the High Sierra website, the price is hard to ignore for anyone on a budget!

High Sierra Loop Backpack Review: High Sierra warranty

The High Sierra Loop backpack comes with a limited lifetime warranty.

This means that if your bag gets damaged due to manufacturing defects, it will be repaired or replaced at the manufacturer’s discretion.

However, the warranty does not cover damage caused by accident, normal wear and tear, abuse of the backpack, and misuse or airline damage.

Note: High Sierra only stands behind products purchased from an authorized reseller(s).

Who’s the High Sierra Loop backpack for?

In terms of function, the pack is an everyday backpack primarily intended for school and work. And it’s awesome for that purpose. From my research, I have seen that this bag has proven itself to be a workhorse for long days on campus or at work.

Other than that, it’s not really a backpack suitable for hiking, biking, camping, or similar activities. It’s too small for a serious hiker, and it won’t fit enough gear.

But I’m sure you could find other uses for the Loop pack – you can use it for gym gear, or as an overnight bag when you’re staying somewhere else.

And the Loop pack is a unisex pack – both men and women can wear it. Plus, it comes with a low price point for shoppers on a budget, so that’s something.

                                        However, there are complaints…

Some users are not a fan of the fact that it doesn’t have a laptop sleeve, a USB charging port, a sternum strap nor a removable waist belt.

But if you can get over these things, the Loop backpack is nonetheless a pretty simple and spacious backpack.

Alternative to Consider: Herschel Heritage Youth Backpack

If you need a small backpack or one for preschoolers, the High Sierra Loop 33-liter backpack might be too big.

This is why there is the Heritage Youth backpack lineup which has three size options to fit different age groups.

Designed for kids to youth, any option you go for is great for school-day organization, and everyday use.

There’s one main compartment with a padded 13” laptop sleeve, a front pocket, and side pockets to hold water bottles.

Plus, it features padded straps and back, a removable sternum strap for support, and a variety of fun prints and colors, so your kids can select what suits their personality.

                                        Final Thoughts

We have come to the end of my High Sierra Loop backpack review.

So, what do I think about the backpack overall?

I’m sure you’ll agree with me that it is super affordable, spacious, colorful.

If you’re tasked with finding a backpack that is inexpensive without being so cheaply made that it falls apart after one semester or few uses, the Loop pack is a steal.

However, it is not perfect as you’ve come to see from this High Sierra Loop backpack review.

It got a rating of 4.4 out of 5, and that’s mostly because it lacks some modern-day features– a protective laptop sleeve, a sternum or waist strap, and the back panel lacks ventilation.

Overall, the High Sierra Loop backpack is a good choice if you want something simple and affordable.

                                        1. Spacious, durable, water resistant, and good priced as well. This looks like a good backpack. I would have liked a USB port and it’s a shame that the back is not ventilated but overall, looks like a versatile pack. A limited warranty but again the pack isn’t that expensive…

I would definitely buy this backpack for school as my kids only use tablets.

                                          Thanks for sharing, Femi.

                                        3. Femi,

I actually really like this backpack, and for only $28, that’s a good deal! If I needed packs for my kids for this school year, this would be one that I would buy. Fortunately, they still have theirs from last year, so I’m happy about that.

But, I will save this one because the next year they may need another one. I like the organization of this particular one, especially the front pockets for the pencils and such.

I also like all the colors it seems to come in honestly. Many backpacks that are meant for the younger kids can be hard to get fun colors. Especially ones that are fun with black on them. The white and black striped was my favorite. It seems like it would be hard to get super dirty, and if it does, at least it will hide a lot of the dirt.

Trust me when I say, kids don’t keep anything nice! Everything gets dirty eventually! Everything!

Thanks for sharing this review! Love this one!

                                        4. Hey Femi. I always feel sorry for the kids when I see them bend under a heavy backpack. Although having all those heavy books in a backpack is better than the leather school bags we had in my youth.

Yet, this backpack looks really nice and handy. My grandkids are too small at the moment to have to carry things back and forth to school, but in a few years’ time, they will have to. By that time they or their parents should check out your website. Because I am sure there will be even better designs by then, don’t you think?

                                        5. Hi Femi – Overall this backpack looks to be quite the deal. With such a low price, build quality, and basic features, for me this seems like a good option for a student or day-to-day use. However, I do see the issue in not having those specific features you had called out before, like dedicated laptop sleeve or sternum strap. The backpack I’ve used often for the past 10 years doesn’t have many features but it at least has a sternum strap which has come in handy. Thank you for the in depth review, this was very informative!

                                        6. Femi,
This is a good review. I like how you explained all the pros and cons of the backpack. As a mom of 4, I remember how difficult it was to find a good backpack that would house many books, but still offer support for the back.

My children are all grown, so back in the day they didn’t come with proper ergonomics or a sternum strap for support. This is extremely important. Some of my children had to “relearn” how to walk when they no longer had to lug around multiple books on their back at school. It also caused some lower back pain.

Because of this, I think this backpack would not be as good for students, especially in the middle and high school age. However, it seems there are many varieties to choose from that would address this problem.

I feel this backpack may be good for a trip where you would just pack clothes or for a younger child who does not yet have very heavy text books to carry around.

I like how affordable it is though, especially if you need to purchase a few of them. Thanks for the review. I’ll keep it in mind when my grandchildren are at this stage of their lives.

                                        7. The High Sierra Loop Backpack looks ideal if you’re on a budget and want something that’s affordable. I agree, it could be too heavy for a young child and in that case the Heritage Youth Backpack is a better option. The lack of a padded laptop sleeve would be a big issue for an older child or young adult. Also, with no sternum strap it could cause back pain. I think I would definitely opt for the Heritage Youth Backpack, and with just a few more dollars you get extra features. Plus, as there are sizes for different age groups even very young kids will benefit.

                                        8. Hi Femi

You had me at $27.99! But other than the price, I love the cute styles (the blue one with white spots is my favorite personally).

While it’s great for students, nearly everyone needs a backpack from time to time. (It would be perfect for me on long walks when I need to take something tasty to eat en-route!).

Thanks for highlighting the pros and cons – I really don’t think you could do any better for the money.

                                          Best,

                                          Jean
