Wow! I didn’t realize there was even a product niche for backpacks with shoe compartments. But it makes sense. Shoes are sort of that last thought when packing for a trip. Having a backpack that has a special compartment makes packing easier. And keeps your other things cleaner!
I admit I like the Solo New York All- Star Hybrid Bag. It looks very professional and seems to hold quite a lot. I don’t see the strap issue as a problem as I would carry it as a backpack all the time, so I an keep my hands free.

Thank you for your comment, John. To answer your question, there is no issue in regards to the size of the bag. A backpack with a shoe compartment doesn’t necessarily mean it would be bigger or smaller than usual.
The AER Pack Fit 3 for instance can fit a size 13 shoe, but is still a compact bag with a 18.7L carrying capacity while the Matein Travel backpack is a 30L capacity, but can only fit a size 12 shoe. So you see, it’s not about the size of the backpack itself.
In most cases, the shoe compartment space eats into the storage in the main compartment because the space is gusseted. And when the space in the shoe compartment is not used, you’ll have more space in fill other items in the bags.
You said you have a rather large feet, but if hopefully a size 13, the AER Fit Pack 3 would do.
