A backpack with water bottle holder allows you to stay hydrated on the go.
It also makes all of the difference for avoiding wet or damaged contents simply because you had to throw a sweaty bottle inside your bag.

To help, I have researched the best backpacks with pockets that are roomy enough to fit a well-sized water bottle.
Let’s get to it…

Best for Travel: Nomatic Travel Pack
Summary: The Nomatic Travel Pack offers versatile storage, be it for everyday carry or travel.
A solid backpack with a water bottle holder, the Nomatic Travel Pack allows you to organize and carry lots of gear in a streamlined, compact package.
It boasts of a magnetic water bottle pocket that can fit any shape and size of bottle you may carry about.
It simply expands to fit and maintains its shape when not in use.
And for optimal organization of your other gear, there are 20 secured spots for them as well as a dedicated laptop and tablet compartment that lays flat to make TSA checkpoints a breeze.
Not to mention that the tech compartment is suspended a couple of inches away from the edge of the bag for protection from accidental falls or hasty drops.
What we also love
There’s the ability to expand the bag from a 20-30 liters bag if you need more space for travel.
What’s not great
The NOMATIC Travel Pack is expensive and comes only in black.
Best for security: Travelon Antitheft Classic Backpack
Summary: The Travelon Classic backpack is safe, stylish and functional.
If safety is one of your primary concerns, the Travelon Classic backpack is your go-to bag.
In terms of anti-theft protection, it features locking zippers, RFID blocking pockets, slash-resistant body, and straps– this way, if anyone tries to tamper with your pack, you will definitely notice them.
At 13 liters, this is a small-sized functional pack that easily fits a tablet, camera, sweater, phones, snacks, and other bits and pieces.
There’s more.
The slip pocket by the side is roomy and deep to fit your water bottle, map, sunglasses, umbrella, or any items you need quick access to.
Plus, it is padded in all the right places so it makes for a comfortable carry while you are wearing it at full capacity.
What we also love
What’s so fantastic about the Travelon Classic to make my list of the best backpacks with water holder is that it comes in a stylish design that is available in various sweet colors.
What’s not great
The Travelon anti-theft backpack is really small and so doesn’t have room for a laptop or a ton of gear.
Summary: The AmazonBasic backpack spots an impressive capacity and organization with a price point that’s hard to ignore.
The AmazonBasic pack makes my list of the best backpacks with water bottle holder thanks to its two elasticated water bottles pockets.
It features an impressive 32-liter capacity with four main areas and several storage pockets to fit books, clothes, and of course, a separate laptop compartment that fits a 17-inch laptop securely and safely as you move.
Made from durable, water-resistant polyester, the AmazonBasic is great for business users, commuters, students, or business users.
Another bonus is that you can travel with this bag and not worry as it fits under the seat of most airlines!
Adding to its greatness is a ventilated back panel and comfy adjustable shoulder straps, to help balance heavy loads.
What we also love
For under $50, the AmazonBasic Laptop backpack is hard to ignore for anyone on a budget.
What’s not great
Aside from the black model, there are no other color options to choose from.
Best for Everyday Use: Stubble and Co The Backpack
Summary: The backpack from Stubble & Co is stylish, simple, and understated, which means you can probably take it everywhere.
When it comes to a simple and sturdy backpack that can be used for short business trips, workout sessions, and daily commutes, Stubble & Co.’s The Backpack gets the memo.
Featuring a minimalist yet stylish design, durable construction, and clean aesthetics, this bag comes with pretty much everything you want and nothing you don’t.
And as one of the best backpacks with water bottle holder, it features two side pockets, allowing you to put your bottle in one pocket and another item like an umbrella in the other.
Although the pockets are not stretchy, they are designed to hold 500ml sized bottles which are the most common you are likely to use.
Despite its sleek design, it has the storage to keep all your essentials separated and in place.
It features a 21L main compartment with a padded pocket for a 16-inch laptop and an external zip pocket for smaller items.
The bag screams excellent craftsmanship and style.
It is weatherproof and durable, thanks to its premium Tekwax canvas, natural full-grain leather, and YKK zippers, which is the gold standard of zips.
But the benefits don’t stop there…
The Backpack was designed with extra security in mind.
This is why it comes with a simple and secure G clip hook and drawstring closure that offer easy access while keeping your belongings safe.
Plus, you won’t want to take this baby off!
It fits snug on your back thanks to a breathable and cushy back panel as well as contoured shoulder straps that ensure your pack stays put and won’t slip around during wear.
You also get a top handle for hanging up the bag or lifting it about, which is always handy.
What we also love
Not only does The Backpack stand out for its sleek, structured profile, it also comes in three fine colors– all black, pirate, and my fav, olive.
And aside from The Backpack, Stubble. Co also have three other offerings-The Daypack, The Commuter and The Roll Top, all of which also come with side pockets for your water bottle.
What’s not great
This backpack has an external pocket but you are likely to find it hard to use when the bag is full to the bream because it will be very tight to slot things in. And if you manage to do so, it would be difficult to close the zip.
Summary: Tuck your laptop- and other school essentials in the ever-practical North Face Borealis backpack.
The North Face Borealis backpack is recommended for college students because of its lightweight design, organization, and functional features.
This 28-liter spacious bag has multiple compartments and pockets for your stuff, as well as two stretchy water bottle pockets on both sides to keep you hydrated.
Additionally, there is a dedicated, highly protective 15” laptop compartment, an extra padded tablet sleeve, and fleece-lined pockets for sunglasses or electronics– very convenient features for both travel and school.
It also has a sternum strap and waist belt so you can adjust the way you carry your bag any way you want.
And then the bag is offered in 14 different colorway combinations, giving it some texture and style that makes it stand out from other plain bags on the market.
What we also love
Incredibly comfy thanks to its FlexVent™ suspension system and padded back panel as well as sternum strap and a removable waist belt.
What we also love
Although not waterproof, it’s decently water resistant and more than up to the challenge of everyday use and outdoor activities every now and then.
What’s not great
The laptop compartment doesn’t have a suspension bottom to protect your gear in instances where the pack is accidentally dropped against a hard surface.
Most versatile: Thule Accent Backpack 26L
Summary: This 26-liter size pack is the perfect everyday backpack for all your adventures.
The Thule Accent backpack 26L is a great everyday backpack.
It’s versatile and minimalist, making it perfect for commuting, grocery shopping, running errands, and even a weekend getaway!
One of the best things about it is that it has plenty of pockets and compartments to keep everything organized while offering great protection for your devices.
In the main compartment alone, there is a padded 15.6-inch laptop laptop sleeve which has a false bottom for protection against fall impacts as well as a tablet sleeve that’ll fit your iPad or kindle.
Additionally, there are 2 small mesh pockets & pen holders on either side for organization of small items.
And finally, there is a zipped mesh pocket which is a perfect spot for your laptop/tablet charger.
Now let’s talk about the pockets on the exterior.
The Accent has a hardshell SafeZone pocket to keep your phone, glasses or whatever else you need safeguarded from bumps and bruises, as well as an opposite zipped area where small items like keys or earphones will fit in nicely!
And as one of the best backpacks with water bottle holder, the Accent has a mesh pocket by the side that’ll comfortably fit your bottle.
Even better, the Accent is both eco-friendly and stylish.
It is made of GRS certified 100% recycled 1680 polyester material, so you can feel good about using a product that is good for the environment.
This pack is also incredibly durable, so you can trust it to hold up to your daily adventures – even if that means taking some abuse in order to protect what matters most (like your electronics).
What we also love
This bag is one of the most comfortable you’ll ever wear.
The shoulder straps are padded and has a sternum strap, making it more than capable for carrying heavy loads across long distances without feeling like a weigh tuna down your back or shoulders!
Plus, there’s plenty padding in the areas where it is mostly needed including the back panel, and grab handle.
The Accent also has compression straps on the bottom for rolling up and carrying jackets or blankets, and a luggage strap on the back so that you can slide it onto the handle of your rolling suitcase.
What’s not great
You however need to pay attention to the actual measurement of the Accent 28L bag, especially if you are somebody with a 5’2″ frame.
You see, this bag measures 12.2 x 10.2 x 20.1 inches tall, and might look too big on someone who is short.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the Accent is not waterproof.
So, if you want a bag that will be able to keep your electronics and other items inside the bag dry even in a heavy downpour, you may want to consider another backpack.
Overall, the Thule Accent 28L backpack is a great option for those who are looking for an eco-friendly and stylish backpack!
Summary: Sophisticated and eco-friendly, the Day Owl backpack is a great catch for minimalists.
If you are looking for a cute and functional bag with a minimalist appeal, the Day Owl backpack comes to the rescue with a clean-cut style that blends in well in any setting.
This 21-liter backpack features 5 hidden external pockets: a top fleeced line pocket, a side pocket, a front panel pocket, and a dedicated 16-inch padded laptop pocket, all concealed.
The great thing about the chimney pocket is that it is hidden, so your bottle or umbrella doesn’t fall out every time you bend over and is water repellent too to prevent any spills or leaks from entering the bag.
What we also love
More impressively, it’s an eco-groovy backpack with features such as a luggage sleeve, carry-on sized, and a free repair for life warranty.
What’s not great
The pack doesn’t have a false bottom to protect your laptop from hard surface impacts and comes with a triple-digit price tag.
By the way, you can check out my comprehensive review on the Day Owl backpack.
Summary: The Black Hole backpack combines versatile styling with outdoor functionality.
For hiking and daily wear, the Black Hole backpack by Patagonia is the way to go.
And the pack has expandable water bottle pockets that can blissfully fit any bottle you throw in.
Made with 100% recycled body fabric, lining, and webbing, it’s also water-resistant, so you won’t have to worry when faced with the elements.
It’s also equipped with a padded 15-inch laptop sleeve and is thankfully crafted with padded shoulder straps and a fully adjustable harness to keep your shoulders happy throughout your hike.
What we also love
One of the best backpacks with a water bottle holder to love and use for years to come, the Black Hole comes with a lifetime warranty and a repair program.
What’s not great
The price tag is quite steep.

Summary: While travel backpacks tend to be bulky and not so attractive, this cute and functional Himawari backpack is an exception.
The Himawari backpack has got lots of users on Amazon leaving raving five-star reviews, a sign that you can trust this bag to serve you well, and why I have shortlisted it as a great backpack with water bottle holder.

What we also love

However, if your shoulders need a break, you can carry the bag by its top handle.

When a laptop is inside the bag, it is not comfortable to wear as you’ll feel the big flat surface of the laptop against your back.
Oh, if you want the best laptop backpacks in the market, my detailed review on the subject would point you in the right direction.
Summary: The Topo Rover backpack is one to get if you’re serious about staying hydrated.
The Topo Rover makes the list of the best backpacks with a water bottle holder for men because it boasts of two elasticated side water bottle pockets (one on each side) that are deep and wide to hold any water bottle of your choice.
I particularly like how each of these pockets is gusseted to fit even larger bottles.
There is also a padded sleeve to fit most 15” laptops, a 20-liter main compartment, and lots of organizer pockets for smaller items all in a tough water-resistant pack.
What we also love

Aside from being downright adorable, the JanSport Superbreak pack measures 16.75 x 13 x 8.5 inches and is specifically designed with a sturdy side pocket that’s large enough to hold a water bottle.

The Black Hole backpack from Patagonia is a winner just because of the name, haha. They give the impression that you can just throw anything into it and it will all fit!
I have a two-litre stainless steel water bottle and it does not fit into so many of these smaller bags. believe me, I’ve tried to get friends to carry it in their bags and it just doesn’t fit (or maybe they pretended it didn’t fit so they wouldn’t have to carry the extra weight…..can’t blame them for that!
You mentioned the price is quite steep (as is most stuff from Patagonia, but it is a reliable brand.)
The Aer Day Pack 2 is also a great looking bag with many great features. I had better compare them both when I’m ready to buy.
Thanks for the information.
Hi Femi,
I love this post. I am getting the Topo backpack for the summer.
Here in London if the weather is going to be like it was last year then I need as much water as I can get and I am going to need a bottle holder and other good compartments. The backpack looks pretty cool aswell 🙂
I will let you know how I get on with this backpack and how well it serves me.
Thank you for sharing and keep up the great work.
All the best,
Tom
Hey, Femi!
Thank you for putting together such a lovely collection of Backpacks.
My personal favorite is the Himawari Laptop Backpack. And even though it may not be the best laptop bag (as you suggested), it seems durable and versatile for my needs. The fact that is water and scratch resistant, gives me additional reassurance and appeal.
It will be a perfect addition to my busy lifestyle!
Wishing you best,
Boriana
